Reflecting on 2024: A Year of Growth and Connection on The Sustainable Act Podcast

As we welcome 2025, it's the perfect time to reflect on the transformative journey The Sustainable Act with Smiely Khurana has undertaken over the past year.

2024 was a year of growth, discovery, and deep connection, as we explored the multifaceted world of sustainability through the eyes of passionate changemakers, creatives, and visionaries.

Throughout the year, the podcast became a space where personal stories and professional insights merged, revealing the profound interconnectedness of environmental advocacy, mental health, and artistic expression. Our guests shared their journeys with vulnerability and authenticity, offering not just knowledge but also hope and inspiration.

One of the recurring themes of 2024 was the power of personal transformation. Many of our guests, like Ursula Galvao of Zero Waste Cult and Yasmine Ross, a dynamic actress and musician, spoke about their individual paths towards sustainable living and creative expression. Their stories highlighted how embracing sustainability often starts with a personal decision to live more intentionally, which then ripples out to inspire others. These conversations reminded us that real change often begins at home, in our everyday choices and practices.

We also delved into the importance of representation and inclusivity in the fight for a sustainable future. Andy Wong and Nightingale from the BIPOC Credits Podcast brought powerful perspectives on the need for diverse voices in the film industry, emphasizing that true sustainability must include social equity. Their insights underscored the importance of community and collaboration, as well as the need to dismantle systemic barriers that hinder BIPOC creatives.

Art and storytelling emerged as vital tools for climate action and mental health. Environmental artist Tehya Jennett and dancer Jackson Xia demonstrated how creative mediums could be harnessed to tell compelling climate stories, heal communities, and address eco-anxiety. Their work highlighted the profound impact of art in not only raising awareness but also fostering resilience and connection in the face of environmental challenges.

Miranda Jackson's contributions shed light on the intersection of corporate sustainability and the entertainment industry. Her insights into making film production more eco-friendly illustrated the practical side of integrating sustainability into mainstream industries, offering listeners tangible ways to advocate for greener practices in their own professional realms.

The podcast also served as a space for introspection, with Smiely sharing her personal journey in solo episodes. The Journal Entries series provided a raw and honest look into the challenges of navigating self-doubt, the process of leaving a corporate job, and the pursuit of a purpose-driven life. These reflections resonated deeply with our audience, reminding us all of the importance of self-care, perseverance, and the courage to follow our passions.

As we reflect on the past year, we're filled with gratitude for the rich tapestry of stories and insights that our guests brought to the podcast. Each conversation added a unique thread to the overarching narrative of sustainability, creativity, and community. 2024 was a testament to the power of shared stories and collective action, and we're excited to continue this journey with you in the year ahead.

Thank you to our listeners, guests, and supporters for making 2024 a remarkable year. Here's to more inspiring conversations, meaningful connections, and impactful actions in 2025.

Stay connected with us on social media, and let's keep building a sustainable future together.
