Founder & CEO
Smiely Khurana she/her
Smiely Khurana is a celebrated leader in sustainable production, named one of Corporate Knights' 2024 Top 30 Under 30 Sustainability Leaders in Canada. In 2020, she founded The Sustainable Act, which began as a podcast focused on sustainability in the film industry and has since evolved into a comprehensive platform addressing various aspects of sustainability. Smiely is currently developing a new initiative launching in 2025, supported by the Lawson Foundation, focused on climate mental health. This initiative builds on her 2024 creation of Climate Cafe Vancouver, which offers a safe space for environmentalists to discuss eco-anxiety and provides vital support for the local climate community. Her extensive experience includes serving as the Sustainability Lead at Creative BC, contributing to the Ethical Producer course at Capilano University, and holding board positions with the Hollywood Climate Summit and CTS Youth Society. She also serves as Program Coordinator for Story Money Impact and has participated in the Youth Climate Innovation Lab by CityHive and the Youth Environmental Change Makers Summit hosted by Starfish Canada. Smiely's work continues to inspire and drive positive change in sustainability, especially within the film industry and environmental advocacy.

Community & Engagement Director
Samantha Paterson she/they
Samantha Paterson is an inquisitive and passionate storyteller dedicated to enhancing climate communications. With a strong background in sustainability and civic engagement, Sam has actively contributed to environmental initiatives, including volunteering with the non-profit My Sea to Sky in Squamish, BC. During this time, she helped organize a large-scale community event aimed at promoting the preservation of Howe Sound and strengthening community spirit. This experience ignited her passion for the power of collective action and positive climate narratives. They are now focused on advancing impactful climate solutions and fostering inclusive community engagement, drawing from her experiences to inspire meaningful change.

Creative Director + Editor, Podcast
Ursula Galvao she/they
Ursula Galvao is a seasoned video editor, dedicated activist, and currently serves as the Creative Director + Editor for The Sustainable Act. Ursula supports with podcast production and editing, community events and content creation. Originally from Brazil, Ursula has called the Metro Vancouver area home since 2016, when she relocated to pursue her studies and obtain her diploma in Motion Picture Arts from Capilano University. In 2019, Ursula founded Zero Waste Cult, an Instagram platform aimed at chronicling her personal journey towards adopting a low-waste lifestyle. Through Zero Waste Cult, Ursula shares her invaluable insights into sustainability while actively engaging with the global sustainability movement. Driven by a profound belief in the power of collective action, Ursula is committed to leveraging her expertise to raise awareness about the climate crisis. Her overarching mission is to empower individuals and communities to enact meaningful change, thereby fostering a more sustainable and equitable future for all.

Kalie Lanik she/her
Kalie is a performance artist with a deep passion for sustainability and creating meaningful change through her work. She is committed to building connections by weaving together her love of the arts with her dedication to environmental and social responsibility. In an ever-evolving world, Kalie embraces continuous learning and growth, both as an artist and as an individual. One of the causes closest to her heart is climate injustice, and she strives to use her platform to raise awareness and inspire action. Through her creative practice, she hopes to empower others, foster dialogue, and grow as an activist committed to a more just and sustainable future.

Social Media Coordinator
Sugandha Talwelkar she/her
Sugandha Talwelkar is a Climate advocate, a conservation champion and sustainability storyteller with experience in zero-waste living, environmental communication, and systems change. Known as The Eco Girl, she is passionate about helping people reduce their individual carbon footprint. She writes poems and short stories that explore the human condition. When she's not reading or writing, you’ll find her biking the Vancouver Seawall or exploring new bike paths.

Stevie Gray he/him
Born and raised in Miracle Mile, Los Angeles, Stevie is a non-fiction storyteller and film production sustainability professional determined to produce solutions-forward work that evokes systemic change. In his travels, Stevie has witnessed the intense effects of our species on Earth's ecosystems, fueling his commitment to share intersectional stories that have local and global impact. Stevie hopes to motivate readers to work towards dismantling the harmful systems that have brought us to this point in our history.

Madeline Medensky she/her
Madeline Medensky is a content writer and editor based in Canada. She was recently the Public Relations Specialist for the University of Waterloo's Hub for Sustainability Integration where she reported on sustainability implementation for business development and economic change. Madeline's content expertise extends to other positions and opportunities in the tech sector. In her spare time, she exercises her storytelling abilities by writing and consuming creative fiction.
